Stereoview photograph of the Firemen's Monument in The Green-Wood Cemetery. Photographed and published by E. & H.T. Anthony & Co. of New York. The photograph shows the Firemen's Monument from outside its gated enclosure. Erected by a committee of volunteer firemen of New York City, the Firemen's Monument memorializes two firemen, Engineer George Kerr and Assistant Foremen Henry Fargis. Sculpted by Robert E. Launitz, the monument is rich in fire-related symbolism, as is the ironwork of the gate. |
